Consumer Price Index
The CPI, as it is called, measures the prices of consumer goods and services and is a measure of the pace of U.S. inflation. The U.S. Department of Labor publishes the CPI every month.
CPI. An inflationary indicator that measures the change in the cost of a fixed basket of products and services, including housing, electricity, food, and transportation. The CPI is published monthly. also called cost-of-living index.
Also known as the cost-of-living index, this is a government index that measures changes in the price of typical consumer goods. The corresponding index for wholesale prices is the Producer Price Index.
