A Morningstar category for taxable bond funds that invest at least 80% of their bond portfolio in government-issued bonds. These bonds have an average duration from 1 to 3.5 years or an average effective maturity from 1 to 4 years. To be classified as a bond fund by Morningstar, the fund must invest at least 70% of its assets in bonds.
