transfer agent  

Definition 1.

An agent employed by a corporation or mutual fund to maintain shareholder records, including purchases, sales, and account balances.

Individual or institution a company appoints to look after the transfer of securities.

An agent who maintains records of stock and bond owners to cancel and issue certificates, and resolve problems arising from lost, destroyed, or stolen certificates. (See registrar)
